Auto-Ordnance has just unveiled a special edition full-sized 1911 single stack pistol chambered in .45 ACP that is festooned with a detailed Cerakote finish mimicking the livery of the “Black Sheep” Squadron’s (VMF-214) Chance Vought F4U Corsair fighter planes of World War II fame.
This special edition pistol is meant as a tribute to the brave fighter pilots of VMF 214 who persevered through some of the toughest aerial combat of the South Pacific during the middle of World War II. These guns have customized engraving and finish work done by Outlaw Ordnance that depict elements of the FU4 Corsair fighter, such as US Naval aviation symbols, enemy fighter kills. This Auto-Ordnance pistol is finished in a navy-blue base Cerakote finish that matches the blue fuselages of WWII era US Navy and US Marine military aircraft.
The base pistol is based on Auto-Ordnance’s USGI style M1911A1 service pistol which itself was the official military sidearm before, during and after World War II. This single-stack .45 ACP 1911 has the same type of details as those found in original service pistols, which includes low-profile military sights, a spurred hammer, a shortened M1911A1 military trigger, left-side only USGI thumb safety and a seven-round magazine.
