Kimber has just released a new fully ambidextrous 9mm striker-fired pistol, with a twist. While most of today’s popular, slim, striker-fired carry pistols are built around polymer frames, Kimber’s latest model, the Kimber R7 Mako Carbon Compact, uses a carbon-fiber matrix grip frame. Besides the addition of this high strength and lightweight composite carbon-fiber matrix material, this new carry gun’s grip and frame are re-profiled to suit modern shooting styles. The magazine well has extra flaring to facilitate reloading and the frame includes some built in thumb rests or “gas pedals” for a thumbs-forward, two-handed shooting grip.
In addition to this, the trigger guard has an aggressive undercut where it meets the front strap, allowing shooters to build a solid grip and exert more control over the pistol. On top of that, the R7 Mako Carbon Compact is decked out with a competition-grade trigger. All these features make the new R7 Mako a “slim” striker-fired, performance-oriented EDC pistol. This Mako model uses a 3.9-inch barrel and has a standard magazine capacity of 15 rounds. The TFS model includes a threaded barrel and a factory-mounted Holosun 407K red-dot sight.
Mountie Mizer, vice president of Sales for Kimber stated: “This new Carbon Compact delivers on all the attributes that our consumers have been asking for and will make more people familiar with where Kimber is headed with our deeper offering of polymer striker variants which feature the best triggers on the market.”
