Introducing MeatEater Rough Cuts: an upcoming, ungoverned series that’ll give you a closer look at Steven Rinella as a human and a hunter. Over the course of six incredible hunts, Steve’s joined by familiar faces, hunting both new and old familiar places.
To be clear, this is not a replacement for MeatEater. Instead, it’s an exploration of character. It’s looking through a new lens. It’s taking risks and getting rewarded. It’s walking the extra mile for a good view.
“It just looks different,” MeatEater video editor Hanzi Deschermeier said on The MeatEater Podcast. “I don’t think anyone else in the hunting space has made something like this.” To hear more about what makes the series unique, check out this recent episode of The MeatEater Podcast.
Here’s a quick look from behind the scenes during each of the hunts:
Follow along day-by-day for a fly-in moose hunt with Steve and Clay in Alaska. Calling them in is the most “psychologically fulfilling” means of hunting moose, according to Steve.
Get back in the stand with Tony and Steve on a classic Oklahoma whitetail hunt.
Steve and Seth are joined by Dave Smith for a Texas hunt. They get some whitetail bucks real riled up with a decoy and rattle calls.
Just because most of the exciting stuff about trapping happens below the surface when nobody’s watching doesn’t mean trapping isn’t fun. Just watch this episode of trapping in Montana with Seth and Steve to find out.
Scour the arid, subtropical Sonoran Desert with Jani and Steve for Coues deer.
Join Steve, Garrett, and Ronnie Collins for a good old-fashioned Montana mule deer hunt.
