Air Force Special Operations Command said it fired its top enlisted leader this week amid an ongoing investigation.
Chief Master Sgt. Anthony Green, who advised on the readiness, training and quality of life of enlisted air commandos, was fired from his leadership position on Monday by Air Force Special Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Mike Conley, citing “a loss in confidence” of his abilities.
Rebecca Heyse, a command spokesperson, told Military.com on Thursday that Green is “in the process of being reassigned outside the headquarters pending completion and disposition of [an] investigation.” The nature of the probe was unclear.

Conley, in an internal email Tuesday to all of Air Force Special Operations Command that was leaked online, wrote: “I want to assure you that this decision was only made after careful consideration of the circumstances.”
Heyse confirmed the authenticity and accuracy of the email to Military.com on Thursday.
“As airmen, we are entrusted with the incredible responsibility and held to the highest standards of conduct,” Conley wrote. “Upholding these standards is non-negotiable, and maintaining good order and discipline is fundamental to who we are.”
“Although there will be questions, we will not be able to answer many of them,” Conley added.
Green joined the Air Force in 1995 and served as an instructor and maintenance technician on C-130 aircraft and held roles such as flying crew chief, combat aviation adviser and maintenance superintendent.
His prior assignments included serving as senior enlisted leader of force structure, requirements, resources and strategic assessments at U.S. Special Operations Command, as well as command chief master sergeant of the Air Force Expeditionary Center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey.
He had served as the command chief of Air Force Special Operations Command since May 2023. A replacement had not yet been publicly named.
Green’s dismissal comes amid other recent leadership firings throughout the Air Force this month.
Last week, defense officials fired a Space Force commander in charge of a Greenland military base after a Military.com report detailed a basewide email distancing the base from comments made by Vice President JD Vance during a March visit.
Earlier this month, the commander of the 557th Weather Wing at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska was fired. Among the reasons provided were a January arrest after being charged with third-degree domestic violence assault. The charges were later dropped.
