High Desert Cartridge Company is expanding its revolver-ammunition selection to include big-bore revolver cartridge offerings following the successful launch of its standard .38 Spl, .357 Mag. and .32 H&R Mag. revolver loads earlier in 2024. The new big-bore revolver cartridge options include .41 Mag, .44 Spl, .44 Mag. and .45 Colt. In addition to this, a High Desert .41 Magnum JHP load is under development, along with a 250-grain JHP .45 Colt cartridge that will have separate product launches in the very near future.
High Desert Cartridge offers its big-bore revolver rounds in pairs, with one option loaded with a Hornady XTP bullet and the other round for the same caliber loaded with a fully jacketed, flat-point bullet. The exception is the High Desert .45 Colt cartridge, which is currently offered with a 250-grain, flat-point bullet, but the company is also developing a 250-grain JHP cartridge for release in the near future.
.44 Spl & .44 Mag.
.44 Spl and .44 Mag. share the same bullet diameter and often fire the same weight projectiles. However, the longer .44 Mag. casing can handle stouter charges for faster muzzle velocities. High Desert’s offerings consist of 200-grain flat-point, jacketed hollow-point bullets for .44 Spl loads with velocities of 835 and 860 fps respectively. High Desert loads its .44 Mag. rounds with 240-grain, flat-point or JHP bullets with a muzzle velocity of 1,150 and 1,200 fps.
.41 Mag.
.41 Mag. is a relatively rare big-bore cartridge that’s in demand by large-frame revolver aficionados. This High Desert load features a 210-grain, flat-point bullet with a muzzle velocity of 880 fps.
.45 Colt
.45 Colt is the oldest big-bore revolver cartridge still in use. It dates back to the late 1800s, and the High Desert load is loaded with a 250-grain, flat-point bullet that exits the muzzle at 790 fps. This load is meant to provide an easy shooting and gentle experience that’s safe to use in older revolvers. It can also be used in longer barreled carbines chambered for .45 Colt to develop a faster muzzle velocity.
