First Look: FN Reflex With Manual Safety

by Braxton Taylor

FN America has added a manual-safety model to its lineup of FN Reflex polymer-frame, striker-fired pistols. The Reflex series consists of micro-compact “slimline” 9mm pistols meant for easy concealment and portability. These small pistols are built around a 3.3-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel, are designed with an easy-to-rack slide with front/rear serrations and take a standard magazine that holds 11 cartridges of 9mm ammunition. Both extended 15-round magazines or diminished-capacity 10-round magazines (for firearms in restrictive locales) are also available for FN Reflex pistols. The new models with manual safeties include a pair of ambidextrous safety levers on either side of the frame meant for left or right-handed shooters to engage or disengage with their thumb in addition to the series of redundant safeties already designed into the FN Reflex series.

These micro-pistols might be small, but they still have a universal accessory rail molded into their polymer frames. This rail can accept tactical lights such as the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub series or the SureFire XSC series. In addition to this, the FN Reflex is optics ready for “slimline” micro-red dots that use footprints such as the Shield RMSc or the Holosun K.
