First Look: SIG Sauer Cross Magnum Sawtooth Rifle

by Braxton Taylor

SIG Sauer just added another member to its bolt-action rifle family of SIG Cross rifles with the new Cross Magnum Sawtooth. This modern style, chassis-based, bolt action rifle is the result of a collaborative effort between SIG Sauer and Proof Research, a high-end rifle barrel manufacturer known for its carbon-fiber rifle barrels. This new bolt-action rifle is chambered in both 7mm PRC and 300 PRC, which are modern magnum cartridges designed by Hornady with advanced projectiles and propellants in order to push 7mm bullets further and with flatter trajectories than what was previously done with the classic 7mm Remington Magnum from the 1960s.

Because it uses the 7mm PRC and 300 PRC chamberings, the new SIG Cross Magnum Sawtooth is built on a magnum-length receiver with a magnum-length action. In spite of this, this new rifle is engineered to be light and handy over rugged terrain in challenging backcountry environments. The Cross Magnum Sawtooth also incorporates many elements found in PRS-style rifles including an adjustable match trigger, an ARCA-rail-compatible handguard and a PRS-style, fully adjustable skeletonized rifle stock. The receiver and chassis are fully finished with a Cerakote painting and the Proof Research barrel is wrapped in carbon fiber. The barrel also has industry standard 5/8×24 tpi at the muzzle. All Cross Magnum Sawtooth rifles ship a heavy profile stainless-steel muzzle brake in order to reduce felt recoil from shooting magnum rifle cartridges from a lightweight backcountry rifle.

SIG Sauer guarantees every new Cross Magnum Sawtooth bolt action rifle to print three-shot sub-MOA groups before it leaves the factory and reaches customers. Every rifle includes a target in its box.
