Springfield Armory is launching the 1911 Agency Optic System (AOS) pistol line that combines the proven capabilities of the 1911 with a modern optics-mounting system, direct from the factory. With 1911 AOS, Springfield Armory blends the trusted 1911 with cutting-edge optics capability, creating a pistol that combines the best of old and new.
“The 1911 is easily the most respected—and proven—pistol in history,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing. “With the new 1911 AOS, Springfield Armory is taking a revered 20th-century design and updating it for the 21st century with the ability to accept a wide range of today’s most advanced optics.”
Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, AOS uses a series of plates that accommodate a wide range of the industry’s most popular red dot sights, such as the RMR, Shield, DeltaPoint Pro and Docter footprints. This flexibility allows shooters to configure their handguns according to their unique preferences for optimal performance.
All AOS-compatible handguns ship with a cover plate that features a rear sight that matches the classic contour of the 1911’s slide and is machined from billet steel for durability and precise fitment. Additional AOS plates designed for a wide range of optics are available for purchase on the Springfield Armory Store. In addition, purchasers of a 1911 AOS pistol will receive a discounted price on one AOS optic plate of their choice of just $49, an $80 savings.
At the time of launch, the 1911 AOS offerings of pistols include the 1911 Emissary, the 1911 Operator and the 1911 Ronin. All three are offered in both 9mm or .45, and also in 5 inch and 4.25 inch configurations. Of special interest is the new 1911 Operator 4.25 inch AOS—in both .45 or 9mm, and featuring a lightweight aluminum frame—is a new addition to the Operator line.
