First Look: Wilson Combat Division 77 Project 1

by Braxton Taylor

Wilson Combat just launched the first model from the new Division 77 product line, the 9mm Project 1 pistol. Division 77 is Wilson Combat’s new “Skunk Works” group that has the goal of pushing the boundaries of the Arkansas company’s capabilities in pistol design and performance. The name “Project 77” is a reference to the year 1977, when Bill Wilson solidified his personal standards of what a 1911 should be.

The Project 1 Pistol

The new Wilson Combat Division 77 Project 1 pistol is a full-size, 5-inch Wilson Combat pattern X9 9mm pistol with a variety of features including an integrated compensator and the new Division 77 style pin-based optics mounting system which allows for the seamless integration of red-dot optics with the Shield RMSc, Trijicon RMR and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprints. The cover plate found on the Project 1 pistol is more than a mere cover plate because it integrates the pistol’s firing pin stop and rear sight dovetails together. Wilson Combat designed it to index consistently every time it is replaced so the sights do not lose their precise zero adjustment. In addition to this, the new Project 1 pistol has a longer single-piece guide rod and TRAK pattern texturing all over its grip panels, front strap and back strap. Every Wilson Combat Project 1 pistol is guaranteed to print 1-inch groups at 25 yards.
