The Steiner T1Xi has been officially recognized as the top-performing red-dot rifle optic in a recent Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) evaluation. Testing was conducted as part of an effort to equip officers with the most reliable non-magnified red-dot sighting system. Criteria included performance under extreme operational conditions, the ability to meet demanding requirements for ruggedness, battery life, zero retention, night-vision compatibility and compatibility with the agency’s issued patrol rifles.

The evaluation process was exhaustive, objective and purpose-built for law enforcement. Optics were first assessed through verification of construction quality, specifications, warranty, battery access, control function, mechanical precision and mounting integrity.

They were then subjected to a series of environmental, durability and reliability trials. They included battery replacement zero-retention test, extreme temperature exposure (–20 to +160 degrees Fahrenheit), multiple 60-inch drop impacts onto concrete, saltwater immersion and corrosion inspection, sand exposure and 5,000-round live-fire endurance.

The Steiner T1Xi, which was introduced in early 2024, outperformed all other models. The red-dot features crystal-clear Steiner glass and three reticle options: 60-MOA circle with 2-MOA dot, standalone 60-MOA circle or standalone 2-MOA dot. That versatility provides both speed and precision from close quarters to extended ranges. A wide 24 mm objective lens ensures an unobstructed field of view and the optic’s lightweight 5.36-ounce weight minimizes burden on the rifle.

With 11 illumination settings, including two night-vision-compatible modes, officers can confidently operate the T1Xi in any lighting environment. The optic is nitrogen-filled, waterproof, fogproof and boasts a 50,000-hour battery life, ensuring long-term readiness for duty.

The Texas DPS was created in 1935 when the famed Texas Rangers (founded in 1823) and Texas Highway Patrol (established in 1929) were consolidated. Today the department has more than 4,700 commissioned officers and nearly 7,000 non-commissioned employees protecting and serving residents and visitors in the Lone Star State.

Having gone through similar evaluations for optics in my own experience, I can appreciate the thoroughness of the Texas DPS evaluation process – the Steiner T1Xi’s performance under extreme conditions is a compelling reason for its adoption.

  2. Elizabeth Jackson on

I’ve had experience with similar red-dot optics, and the Steiner T1Xi’s features, such as its wide field of view and lightweight design, seem to address many of the common issues with durability and ease of use – it’s a promising development for law enforcement equipment.

  3. I’m skeptical about the effectiveness of the Steiner T1Xi in extremely low-light conditions, despite its night-vision-compatible modes – has there been any real-world testing to confirm its performance in such scenarios?

  4. Oliver J. Smith on

The mention of crystal-clear Steiner glass in the T1Xi is intriguing – how does this impact the optic’s overall performance and durability, especially in harsh environments?

  5. Patricia L. Thompson on

The Texas DPS evaluation process seems exhaustive, with tests including extreme temperature exposure, drop impacts, and saltwater immersion – it’s no surprise the Steiner T1Xi emerged as the top performer given its robust construction.

    • The fact that it outperformed all other models in such a rigorous evaluation speaks to its quality and reliability, making it a solid choice for law enforcement agencies.

  6. Given the Steiner T1Xi’s top performance in the Texas DPS evaluation, it’s reasonable to expect that other law enforcement agencies might also consider adopting this optic for their standard issue rifles – the potential for wider adoption is significant.

  7. The Steiner T1Xi’s 50,000-hour battery life is impressive, especially considering the Texas DPS evaluation’s rigorous testing, including a 5,000-round live-fire endurance trial.

    • That’s a significant advantage for officers who need a reliable optic in high-stress situations, and the fact that it’s nitrogen-filled, waterproof, and fogproof adds to its durability.

  8. Isabella Jackson on

The evaluation’s focus on the optic’s performance under extreme operational conditions, such as the battery replacement zero-retention test and extreme temperature exposure, demonstrates a clear understanding of the real-world challenges faced by law enforcement officers.

  9. Michael Jackson on

The combination of the Steiner T1Xi’s rugged design, long battery life, and versatile reticle options makes a strong case for its use in law enforcement – the Texas DPS evaluation provides a compelling endorsement of its capabilities.

  10. Emma Z. Thompson on

The fact that the Steiner T1Xi has 11 illumination settings, including two night-vision-compatible modes, shows a clear understanding of the varied environments in which law enforcement officers operate – this versatility is a significant advantage.

  11. The Texas DPS’s decision to equip its officers with the Steiner T1Xi after such a rigorous evaluation is a vote of confidence in the optic’s capabilities – it will be interesting to see how this affects their operations in the field.
