Benelli USA has recently unveiled a new version of its legendary gas-operated M4 Tactical shotgun to the U.S. commercial market with the arrival of the Benelli M4 EXT.

The Benelli M4 EXT closely resembles the military issue Benelli M1014. M4 EXT shotguns offer a seven-round tubular magazine capacity, the signature five-position adjustable stock that incorporates a pistol grip and an oversize bolt release. In addition Benelli M4 EXT shotguns will be available in black, flat dark earth and Multicam Black.

The Benelli M4 is a tactical semi-automatic shotgun chambered for 12-gauge shells. This defensive shotgun includes a threaded barrel that accepts chokes. It’s also optics-ready while shipping with a front-sight base and a rear ghost ring sight.

“Consumers weren’t asking us to reinvent the legendary M4 … they were simply asking us to unleash it. Now we have.” said Bret Maffet, Senior Product Manager, Benelli.

Historically, Benelli shotguns are famous for the inertia-driven action. These robust semi-automatic shotgun actions have few moving parts and rely on the recoil of the fired round to cycle. The Benelli M4 action takes a different approach from this and uses the ARGO gas system. The ARGO gas system uses two small pistons and a self-regulating gas valve to cycle the action. Both pistons tap on the bolt carrier with enough power to finish cycling the action. This is the Benelli M4’s greatest asset and the reason it passed the U.S. Marine Corps rigorous selection standards.
