The Space Force’s budget would continue to shrink under the Trump administration’s 2026 budget proposal, which experts said would force the Pentagon to rely on the yet-to-be-passed reconciliation bill to fund Golden Dome and other space priorities. The White House is requesting $26.3 billion for the service, according to budget documents released on Friday. That’s about 13 percent less, in real terms, than the $29.4 billion requested by the Biden administration for 2025. It’s down from the $28.7 billion actually appropriated under the full-year continuing resolution passed in March. And it’s down from the 2024 total of $29 billion, which represented…
The long-running “MechWarriors” video-game series imagines a future where mankind made it to the stars, invented all sorts of new technology and then fell into a galactic civil war. The premier weapons of the wars are mechs — giant robots 30-50 feet tall with cannons, missiles, lasers and more. And a new entry in the series, “MechWarrior 5: Clans” and its expansion, “Ghost Bear: Flash Storm,” gives a look at the brutal conflict that resulted when long-lost clans suddenly reappear and attack the rest of human civilization. Each ship carries about 16-20 mechs, and there are dozens of them. (Photo by…
Developing: Trump’s Pentagon authorized its civilian employees to assist with “border security” operations for the Department of Homeland Security. The authorization was requested by DHS and paves the way for DOD civilian “volunteers” to assist with the White House’s immigration enforcement plans, according to Fox. The order was signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and released publicly Monday along with a statement from Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, who described the effort as “temporary assignments…in support of critical ongoing operations.” Fine print: “Detail assignments may be either reimbursable or non-reimbursable,” according to the memo. What does that mean exactly? It’s not yet entirely…

But believe it or not, there are times when we use knives for more than just breaking…
Competitors to the .30-’06 Sprg. (left) like the 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7 mm PRC and 7 mm Backcountry, have made the 120-year-old cartridge seem outdated in this modern age. War, as they say, is hell. Nearly four million Americans served during World War I, and of those who went to battle—hell—most carried a bolt-action rifle chambered in .30-’06 Sprg. Twenty-three years later hell returned to Earth, and during World War II four times as many Americans served. Many of those soldiers carried a semi-automatic .30-’06 Sprg. If you go to hell (and come back) you’ll forever trust the tools…
For 10,000 years, from the end of the Pleistocene to the coming of Old Worlders to America, a diverse population of Native people lived in North America while somehow managing to preserve almost all its biological riches. In contrast to the period when the prior Paleolithic hunters dominated America and the West, this 10,000 year phase of American history featured only one human-caused extinction that science has so far discovered. Was this some strange accident of continental history? Or were their concrete reasons for why, and how, Native America achieved this kind of environmental success? Read the full article here
