Powdered milk could be an essential part of the prepper pantry. Long-term storage of milk… I’ll tell you what we’ve done to solve this problem and what we specifically buy. Powdered Milk in Bulk For Long-Term Storage When I began prepping seriously, I decided to look into powdered milk. Milk goes with many things and is an essential ingredient in many recipes. Additionally, I valued its protein content, calcium, vitamin D, A, and others. It is an excellent addition to one’s overall long-term survival food storage. I discovered that powdered milk commonly comes in vacuum-sealed #10 cans for optimal shelf…

SIG Sauer recently launched the Romeo RS, a new series of micro-compact, open-emitter, slide-mounted red-dot sights. These narrow RMSc footprint compatible units (compact models) or the slightly larger DeltaPoint Pro footprint (Pro models) are intended to deliver a reflex sight that’s both durable and affordable. The “RS” in the name of this new red-dot sight stands for “reinforced steel” and references the sight’s robust but cost-efficient construction. Whereas most reflex sights on the market are machined from aluminum, the Romeo RS’ polymer reinforced steel construction is an alternative approach and a substitute for the typical aluminum housing. The new Romeo…

Shell Shock Technologies claims numerous advantages of its steel-cased ammo, but the most apparent advantage is how much less it weighs. In the March 2018 edition of this column, I wrote about NovX ammunition. I mention this because NovX loads its ammunition in steel NAS3 cases. These cases are much lighter than brass, and according to the manufacturer, they’re twice as strong. It’s a unique two-piece case design that is magnetic, allowing you to easily pick them up with a magnet. This is important because the manufacturer of the NAS3 stainless steel cartridge case is Shell Shock Technologies, and now…

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Dozens of onlookers gathered on a pier overlooking the Potomac River, shivering in the cold wind to see a small, 24-foot long vessel speed around without a captain.  It was Corsair, the smallest offering from robot-boat startup company Saronic, demonstrating how well it could maneuver in choppy waters with other craft passing by. And while it drew the largest crowd of the day, it wasn’t the only autonomous or semi-crewed vessel docked just outside of the Sea-Air-Space conference this week: Maritime Robotics, Textron Systems, and Ghostworks’ optionally-crewed Minerva all had a mooring. Project Perfect Storm was also there. Paired with…

When I was a kid just about every country home had what we called a “kitchen-door gun.”  That was an old .22 rifle or maybe a single-shot .410. It was used to dispatch unwanted critters from the porch or yard. Poisonous snakes would be a good example. Of course, the kitchen-door gun occasionally came into play when dealing with even more dangerous, and bigger, critters. In today’s society, having a long gun safely stored near your external doors is really a good idea. Even though you may be wearing a defensive handgun, getting your hands on a long gun really…

The firing of two top officials at the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command last week has rattled the cyber community, lawmakers from both parties and experts, prompting concerns that President Donald Trump’s administration’s tack on cyber threats against the U.S. is dangerously rudderless. The administration inexplicably fired Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh, head of both the NSA and CyberCom, and the NSA deputy director, Wendy Noble, on April 3 — both well-respected within the agencies and on Capitol Hill, current and former officials said — amid news reports that a far-right conspiracy theorist bent the ear of the president…

The Pentagon’s newest push to trim its workforce and spending could mean that on-base grocery stores and shops designed to save service members and their families money could ultimately be sold off to the private sector. An April 7 memo signed by Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg listed a wide range of possible reforms aimed at “delivering maximum value to the warfighter.” Among them included “all functions that are not inherently governmental (e.g. retail sales and recreation) should be prioritized for privatization.”A defense official familiar with the intent behind the memo told Military.com on Thursday that there weren’t any off-limit areas…
