The Pentagon wants to cut several IT contracts with tech consulting firms in an effort to reduce duplicative spending and increase efficiency by relying on the defense civilian workforce, according to an April 10 memo. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the termination of several IT services contracts with the Defense Health Agency, Air Force, and Navy, saying the work could be “performed by our civilian workforce” or fulfilled with “existing procurement resources.” Additionally, the memo ends a contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for “IT Helpdesk Services that are duplicative with service capabilities of our existing DISA workforce.” Hegseth said the…

Susan Meyers, the commander of the 821st Space Base Group who oversees Pituffik Space Base, had sent an email to personnel on March 31, just days after Vance’s visit, saying his comments “are not reflective” of the base’s views.Hours after Military.com’s report, a news release said Col. Kenneth Klock, commander of Space Base Delta…
There are many ways to combine leg exercises with cardio options. This is a classic method for working the legs, glutes and hips, along with cardio events between resistance training. If you wish, you can do all the resistance exercises first and then select the cardio sets you missed. If needed, you can opt for the nonimpact version of this leg day and replace any mile of running missed with 10 minutes of biking, stair-stepping, rowing or time on the elliptical machine.Warm up with a squat half pyramid: Go up to 10 reps (55 total reps) spread over 10 sets, jogging…

Dollars vs. Hard Assets. While we need dollars to pay bills, purchase consumable supplies, and accumulate savings, the dollar constantly depreciates. The dollar is not an investment; it is only a medium of exchange. I write this during a time of global financial and economic volatility. The world’s nations and people are drowning in debt. But it’s worse than that. Most people don’t know that our monetary system is built on debt, which requires ever-increasing debt for sustainability. The problems began when the dollar system, which was previously backed by gold, went off the gold standard. This shift led to…
For many taking up concealed carry the first thing I suggest is considering the worst-case scenario. To define what a worst-case scenario would look like, start with being surprised. And, if that wasn’t challenging enough, start from positional disadvantages such as from on the ground or with a simulated injury to further complicate the situation, adding more realism. What are the advantages to considering the worst case? Doing so brings about a certain type of urgency. One that might change training, practicing and equipment methodology. It also helps to overcome fear. The more exposure early on, the more familiar, which…

One of the things I love most about recipe development is that you can start a recipe off with one idea and end up with something very different. This soup, for example, began as a riff on Olive Garden’s chicken gnocchi soup, but somewhere along the way, nostalgia hit. The aromatic smell of leeks cooking in bubbling butter began to tug on old memories of my great-grandmother’s soup. I can see her now, hovering over the copper-bottomed Revere Ware stockpot, stirring a humble potato and dumpling soup made with chicken stock, cream, and celery seed. It wasn’t until I lived…
