Revealed less than a week ago, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is already breaking franchise records as its reveal trailer is now the most-watched trailer on the Call of Duty YouTube channel. Hype for Modern Warfare 4 is clearly growing, as expectations for this year’s entry are high following a two-year stretch of low points in the series.

Modern Warfare 4’s Reveal Trailer Breaks a Franchise Record

With plenty to be excited about, it seems fans have started to take notice and have already watched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s reveal trailer over 50 million times in three days, making it the most-watched trailer on the Call of Duty channel. At the time of writing, Modern Warfare 4 stands at 53 million views, while the two runners-up are Black Ops 7 with 49 million views and Infinite Warfare with 47 million views. Infinite Warfare itself is an interesting story, as it reached that high view count not out of fan hype but out of fan discontent, quickly becoming one of the most disliked videos on YouTube as dislike brigades flooded the trailer for days after the reveal.

However, Modern Warfare 4 doesn’t seem to be tracking along that same path. Many fans online are saying that they are looking forward to the game and that the community is craving a good Call of Duty entry after the missteps Black Ops 7 took last year and Modern Warfare 3 dropping the ball the year prior. But there are a number of people claiming that not all of these views are legit. Some allege that Call of Duty has been botting views on its reveal trailers for a number of years and that ad auto-plays for Modern Warfare 4 also count toward the overall view count, making this record-breaking achievement less impressive. It is worth noting that neither of these claims has been proven true.

Regardless of the circumstances, Modern Warfare 4 has still accrued a massive number of views for its reveal trailer, no matter how anyone spins it. Right now, it sits just behind Battlefield 1‘s reveal trailer and in front of Pokémon Go‘s reveal trailer in terms of view count, putting it in good company among some of the biggest games in the industry. Although as impressive as it is, MW4‘s reveal trailer still lags significantly behind some of the most anticipated games of all time, like the crazy 280 million views that GTA 6 garnered with its initial reveal trailer.
