Air Force Identifies Body Found in Burned Vehicle on Eglin AFB as 26-Year-Old Female

Air Force officials have positively identified the identity of the individual found in a burned vehicle on Eglin Air Force Base last week.

The Air Force Medical Examiner identified the deceased as 26-year-old female Senior Airman Tamera Moniq Bolden-Cleckley, of Boerne, Texas, who was assigned to the 96th Surgical Operations Squadron.

An investigation ensued last week after Bolden-Cleckley’s body was discovered in a burned car Sept. 23 at Range Road 234 and Lewis Turner Boulevard. While not officially on the main Eglin base, the site is part of the Eglin Test and Training Range Complex and, hence, Department of Air Force federal property.

Bolden-Cleckley entered the Air Force in 2021 and was assigned to the surgical squadron as a diagnostic imaging specialist, or radiology technician.

“Senior Airman Bolden-Cleckley was a valued member of the 96 Test Wing team, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fellow Airmen during this difficult time,” said Col. Chris Keithley, 96th TW commander, in a statement on Sunday. “We remain committed to supporting those affected by this loss and encourage anyone who needs assistance to reach out to any of our helping agencies.”

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) said it is still investigating the incident, adding that no further information will be released at this time.

How the Body Was Found

A 96th Security Forces patrol discovered the vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. Sept. 23, on the Eglin base in Florida’s Panhandle.

Public details remained almost nonexistent until the Air Force announced the individual’s identity this past weekend. In its official statement, Eglin said the next-of-kin notification process was underway and asked the public to “avoid premature conclusions and speculation in respect to the family.”

Range Road 234 is part of the network of roads serving Eglin’s testing and training ranges. Officials have not said why the vehicle was there or provided a more precise location beyond the intersection area.

They also have not said how Bolden-Cleckley ended up in the vehicle, or how it was set ablaze.

The Air Force and local helping agencies are providing counseling services and support to everyone affected by the tragedy. Family and friends will be offered resources through the Air Force’s Casualty Assistance Office, the Air Force Employee Assistance Program, and the Chaplain’s Office to help them navigate this difficult time.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the loss of Senior Airman Bolden-Cleckley, one of our teammates. During this incredibly difficult time, I want to extend my deepest condolences to Tamera’s family, friends, and all those who knew and cared for her,” said Col. Daniel Micsunescu, 96th SGCS commander, in a statement.
